Scholarship Overview

This is a $500 Scholarship given in memory of Holly Day Barnett. This scholarship will be given each spring to a Chico High School senior girl who has participated in athletics and plans to attend college. The scholarship is intended as a reward for past achievement in these areas, and an incentive for future achievement. The Barnett family will select the recipient of the scholarship, in consultation with Chico High School staff.

About Holly Day

Holly Day Barnett is a 1993 Chico High School graduate and captain of the women’s volleyball team. At UC Santa Cruz, Holly started on the volleyball team as a freshman, but soon devoted her time and energy to a degree in the Geological and Earth Sciences, which she earned in 1997. She worked for the Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey in Sacramento from 1997 to 1998, during which time she took part in several Adventure Races. In early 1999 Holly died of cancer. Her many friends and her family established this scholarship to commemorate her hearty enjoyment of life, which included parties, athletics, and science in its generous and warm-hearted embrace.
